12 Days of Christmas – Day 5

Bedroom Decorating

Since our bedroom also is my studio / work space, it is very important for me, that it gets some Christmas cheer as well as the other rooms of our lovely little home.

I started out by taking out my IKEA Christmas bedding – what a difference that made!! Then I hung a watercolor painting, a single reindeer antler and decorated it with shiny ornaments :)

PS: see how pretty my Woodsy Pillows are?? :D

Adrian’s nightstand got a vase filled with black stones (both from the Dollar store) on top of some books, wrapped in silver and white wrapping paper. I added some branches to that vase and hung a few more ornaments…

( I just love the contrast of those branches :D )

My side of the bed is held simple with two pictures as backdrop, a little basked for those necessities like lip balm & co and one tall taper candle.

To finish it all up I transformed the shelf overneath my workspace into a winter wonderland with some cheap white Christmas trees (Dollar Store), a scented candle and some planters from IKEA. Also I filled up one of my decorative bird cages with some cheap silver ornaments – that gives it that final bling bling moment ;)

I know, LOTS and LOTS of pictures in this post…. Hope you enjoyed it tough ;)

Merry Christmas ♥

Woodsy Pillow Cases

When I saw this idea on one of my daily walks in the big dark forest of the internet, I knew I had to make some of those cases myself!

It is actually very easy to make, but takes a few hours if you want to stencil as many trees as I did ;)

You’ll need: Fabric Color (find at JoAnn’s or Michael’s), Stipple Brush, Pillow Case, Cardboard

1. Start out this project by drawing some simple trees on a piece of paper. Cut that out and use it as a pattern on cardboard, trace it and cut out as well. I preferred to use my exacto knife to get those sharp corners of the trees. However, I made only three different shapes – make more if you want a bigger variety.

2. Before you start to paint, lay a piece of cardboard or a bunch of newspaper in between the pillowcase! If you don’t do this you will end up having ugly paint stains on the backside of the case, since the paint likes to go through the fabric…

3. Place your stencils, squeeze out some paint on a plate and start stippling! Use enough paint and always stipple vertical so the edges get nice and crisp.

4. Once you’re done, let it dry at least 24 hours (or see directions of your paint) and have lots of fun with your pillow :D

Envelope Pillow Cases

At IKEA I got some really cheap pillows (INNER, 2.99 each) that are nice and full and perfect for craft projects! Today I will show you how I made some really easy Envelope Pillow Cases and tomorrow we will talk about making them pretty ;) So check back tomorrow to complete this project :D

You’ll need: INNER Pillow, White Fabric, Sewing Machine, Pins

1. Cut your white fabric into shape. You will need one 33×16″ and one 20×16″ panel. Zigzag the edges so they don’t fray and sew the two panels on the 16″ edge together (see first picture)

2. Lay the piece of fabric on a flat surface, right side up, and place the pillow on the bigger panel, close to the seam. Now wrap up the pillow and make sure it is nice and snug on the two shorter ends.

3. Start to pin and gently take out your pillow. Sew both long edges together, turn the case right side out and you are good to go :D

Merry Christmas ♥

Quick Stamp Update: The stamps should arrive next Monday and will be up for sale on (hopefully) Tuesday :D

Christmas in the Air

Today I want to share with you a few really great ways to get that Christmas scent in the air. Of course you can always lit a scented candle, but usually they don’t work that great… But if you want your whole house to smell like Christmas then you should definitely give my brews a try ;)

Orange & Cloves

Ingredients: 1 Orange (Skin), 10 Whole Cloves, Water

Directions: Fill up a pan about half with water and get it to a boil. In the meantime peal the orange (eat the juicy fruit ;) ) and put the skin into the water. Add your whole cloves and let the brew simmer on small flame. Your house will smell amazingly within short time!!

Hot Apple Cider

Ingredients: Apple Juice, Cinnamon Stick, Whole Cloves, Water

Directions: In a pan, bring about 2 cups of water and 6 cups of apple juice to a boil. Add the cinnamon stick and about 10 whole cloves and let simmer on small flame. Not only will your house smell in the highest notes, but you will have hot apple cider that you can drink and share with your guests! (really really yummy and a great hit at our place ;) ) This tastes really good also on the second day, after it has been cold overnight. Simply warm up and enjoy :D

Hot Chocolate

Ingredients: Milk, Water, 1 Cup good quality Chocolate Chips, 2 Tablespoons Unsweetened Cocoa, Sugar (if needed), Whipping Cream & Marshmallows (if preferred)

Directions: In a pan mix 1 cup of water, 1 to 2 quarts of milk, chocolate chips and cocoa to a boil. Be careful and make sure it doesn’t overflow! If needed add sugar and serve with whipping cream and marshmallows ;)

Hope you will like these recipes as much as I do :D

The Tree is Up

I guess I’m one of the early birds when it comes to putting up the Christmas Tree ;) The funniest thing is, that Adrian used to make jokes about those people, who would put up their Christmas Tree right after Thanksgiving…. Well, now he belongs to exactly that group as well ;) heee

I know, the pictures aren’t that great since I was a bit in a hurry when I took them, but at least I can show you guys what I was talking about in the last post ;) Hope you enjoy :)

Quick Tip: If you need to fill up those empty spaces on the tree, but everything is already super shiny and sparkly (or colorful…) then go ahead and simply hang some transparent glass ornaments! They make a HUGE difference without taking center point!

Happy Scrappin’ :D
