Yay, it’s the 4th of July weekend!!!! Can’t wait to go and see the parade Hope it’s not too hot this time…. But I guess we won’t be lucky… We have a pretty hot heat wave at the moment… But that makes swimming in the pool even more fun!
Anyways, I just wanted to pop in and share a quick tutorial with you guys!
I had those packs of American Flags for over a year. Originally we bought them for our wedding, since we wanted to do a American/Swiss themed reception with Swiss and US flags all over the place. Well, things changed and we decided to go with pink and birdies so I now sat on my flags and didn’t know what to do and where to use them ever again…
One sunny morning I had that great idea. I unpacked my flags and ripped them off the stick they where attached to and started to sew four flags together – side by side. Then I cut some simple white fabric into shape that I had laying around in my sewing bag. Right sides together I sew again, but left an opening, turned the pillow case around and started to cut open one of our cheap IKEA pillows, since I didn’t have any filling material at hand.
Once the pillow was nice and full I carefully closed my opening and voila, the pillow was done! It looks GREAT on our white couch. Just gives that patriotic feel I so love about the USA
1. Since I had a few more flags left I made myself a little pin cushion. Now THIS was super easy. Just repeat the steps from above
2. I haven’t done it yet, but the idea is here: I would like to make a real big pillow with a real big flag – possibly for our bedroom or on a reading chair (that we don’t have any space for at the moment…) For that I would basically do the same steps as for the pin cushion, but would leave open one of the sides and attach either buttons or ribbons so it’s a slip cover and easy to wash if it gets dirty.
3. Now of course, if you like or live in another country, go ahead and buy different flags For example I could totally see a cool Japanese, British or Australian pillow…
4. Hey, or what about a cool banner (or pillow of course), using lots of different flags mixed together?
Oh and don’t forget the giveaway I will pick a winner sometimes around this weekend or so… Until then it’s open for comments heee
Enjoy the weekend
